My father became a business owner when I was a boy. About 2 years after he started that business, they bought their first house. To me, as a boy of 8 years old, there was a mystical quality about business ownership that was born from the experience. I have since learned that there was no direct connection between the two things, but the magic of business ownership had already taken root. I just knew I would own my own business one day. Years later, my dad had an employee named Will. He came and went and a while after that, I walked into a locksmith shop to have some keys made, where I discovered Will behind the counter. We chatted for a bit and when I left, he gave me some locks and lock picks to play around with at home. The passion for locks was born on my couch after I spent almost 3 months trying to pick the lock he gave me. The day that it finally clicked, I was completely hooked.
I was buying locks from another smith in town in 2015 and one time when I was in there, he asked me if I was looking for work. I was not, but I told him, "I think I would rather be doing this," and after talking about it with my current boss, I tendered my 2 week notice and moved to the lock shop. I excelled almost immediately. I got married and moved away a short time later, but we are still close friends now, and every time I visit he asks me 2 questions. "How many kids do you have now?" And, "When are you coming back here?" I worked for two other companies in the new city and felt like I was finally ready to go out on my own. Bay Safe and Lock was born in 2023. I am so grateful to be doing something I genuinely love to do and to be able to share that passion to provide security to those I am privileged to serve. I have big dreams for this business and I am looking forward to the years to come.
